Lamentations 3-5
“For the Lord will not cast off forever, but, though he cause grief, he will have compassion according to the abundance of his steadfast love” (3:31-32). Even in the midst of the worst disaster Israel had ever seen, Jeremiah (author of Lamentations) remembered God’s steadfast love. He saw terrible things happening in the city where people used to worship God; all visible signs of peace, order, and properity were destroyed. Yet the prophet trusted in God’s unfailing love.
“But this I call to mind, and therefore I have hope: The steadfast love of the LORD never ceases” (3:21-22). God did not leave us in our sin and suffering; He entered our world and saved us by His sacrificial love.
