II Samuel 20-24

“The LORD is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer” (22:2).  King David’s enduring fame was not because of his bravery in battle, but because of his trust in the Lord (as in the fight against Goliath) and his songs. Having learned from his own troubles and terrible mistakes, the “sweet psalmist of Israel” (23:1) taught Israel how to pray, how to seek forgiveness, and how to praise God for His saving acts. “He rescued me from my strong enemy … the LORD was my support” (v18-19).

“He rescued me, because he delighted in me” (22:20). David’s psalms communicate bedrock truths: that we need rescue, and that God loves us enough to save us.
