Psalm 68

“Father of the fatherless and protector of widows is God in his holy habitation” (v5).  The psalmist praises “him who rides through the deserts” (v4), the heavenly Warrior who cares for the poor, weak, and vulnerable. God uses His awesome strength to free prisoners and to make a home for those who are homeless and lonely. “God settles the solitary in a home; he leads out the prisoners to prosperity, but the rebellious dwell in a parched land” (v6).

“Blessed be the Lord, who daily bears us up; God is our salvation” (68:19). The Creator of heaven and earth became flesh, like us, so that He could carry our burdens and lead us out of bondage into freedom.
