I Chronicles 11

“Now these are the chiefs of David's mighty men, who gave him strong support in his kingdom … to make him king” (v10).  Chronicles shows us that David, God’s anointed king, inspired people around him to do “great deeds.”  David’s brave and loyal warriors fought through enemy lines to get him water from his favorite well, and Benaiah struck down a giant Egyptian and chased a lion into a snowy pit (v22-23). More than individual exploits, they also united behind David to strengthen Israel.

Great leaders inspire devotion and win victory (v14) for their people.  Our King Jesus, “son of David,” won our victory on the cross, and He calls us follow His example of self-denying, courageous, sacrificial love.
