I Chronicles 25
/“David and the chiefs of the service also set apart for the service the sons of Asaph, and of Heman, and of Jeduthun, who prophesied with lyres, with harps, and with cymbals” (v1). Prophecy was not limited to predicting the future. Most prophecy, in fact, was a kind of preaching: declaring God’s Word by the Spirit’s power, as it applied to the present moment. The worship leaders of the Temple prophesied “with thanksgiving and praise” (v3), declaring God’s character and His mighty acts through music.
The “set apart” priests and Levites (v1) who led worship and prophesied foreshadowed Spirit being poured out on all God’s people (Acts 2), so that everyone can declare His praises and glorify Him.
