Mark 2
“And no one puts new wine into old wineskins. If he does, the wine will burst the skins—and the wine is destroyed, and so are the skins. But new wine is for fresh wineskins” (v22). The religious leaders resisted the “new wine” of the gospel. Jesus warned them that clinging rigidly to tradition would cause the whole thing to burst; His coming (the new wine) required them to be flexible and receptive. Rather than simply guarding the Law, they now had the chance to know the Law-giver.
“The Son of Man is Lord even of the Sabbath!” (v28). Even our best traditions can’t save us. Jesus is the new wine that requires us to be humble, open, and receptive to His voice.
