Numbers 28-30

“And on the seventh day you shall have a holy convocation. You shall not do any ordinary work” (28:25). The weekly Sabbath prohibited “ordinary work,” as did the seasonal festivals in which the Israelites celebrated God’s goodness and remembered (Passover) His great deliverance.  Every time they paused for a day-long or week-long feast, they stopped the “ordinary work” of buying and selling, planting and harvest, building and managing.  Worshiping God required their full attention, and stopping work proclaimed trust in the Provider.

Our worship is also “a pleasing aroma” (28:6) to the Lord when it is accompanied by thankful and trusting hearts.  The God who saved us will continue to provide what we need.
