Luke 19
/“He has gone in to be the guest of a man who is a sinner” (v7). Zacchaeus wasn’t part of the right group; he had gotten rich by questionable means and was rejected by righteous people. People didn’t like the fact that Jesus went to his house. But Zacchaeus’ heart was open, and he responded to Jesus whole-heartedly: “Behold, Lord, the half of my goods I give to the poor. And if I have defrauded anyone of anything, I restore it fourfold.” Knowing Jesus was worth more than all his wealth.
“Today salvation has come to this house” (v9). We judge by reputation and appearances, but the Lord sees our hearts. He welcomes those who throw themselves completely on His mercy.
