Joshua 16-19

“These are the inheritances that Eleazar the priest and Joshua the son of Nun … distributed by lot … So they finished dividing the land” (19:54).  The point of God’s rescuing Israel from Egypt and helping them conquer their enemies was so that, one day, they could live peacefully in the Promised Land. The Law, both worship instructions and community codes, envisioned the Israelites living in the land.  God’s desire was to see His people serve Him in daily life and thrive.

“Be strong and courageous …” (1:9). Like the Israelites, we need God’s power not only to meet desperate challenges, but to live well.  In Christ, we have everything we need for “life and godliness” (2 Peter 1:3).
