Luke 19
/“Today salvation has come to this house, because this man, too, is a son of Abraham” (9). People in Jesus’ day thought that salvation belonged to those who were respected by the religious leaders and kept the rules. But Jesus embraced Zacchaeus, a despised “tax collector” who climbed a tree to see Jesus, eagerly welcomed him, and repented of his sins (6-8). Jesus grieved over his own people in Jerusalem who, due to pride and self-righteousness, could not see “what would bring you peace” (42).
“For the Son of Man has come to seek and save the lost” (10). Seeing others’ sin is easy (7). Only by turning away from our sinful pride can we receive the forgiveness and peace of Christ.
