Jeremiah 14-15
/“The prophets are prophesying lies in my name” (14:14). Tragically, those who were responsible for Judah’s spiritual well-being minimized the consequences of greed, violence, and promiscuity. Instead of calling God’s people back to His ways, they prophesied “false visions ... and the delusions of their own minds” (14:14). They ignored Jeremiah’s warnings of “sword and famine” (14:15) until it was too late. God’s judgment was coming on their generation (ch 15), and Jeremiah mourned.
“We hoped for peace but no good has come” (14:19). No good comes from covering up sin; instead, we walk into disaster. God loves us enough to warn us and to open the way for the real peace of forgiveness and restored relationships.
