Isaiah 22-27

“The earth is defiled by its people; they have disobeyed the laws ...and broken the everlasting covenant” (24:5-6). Like everyone on earth, Isaiah said, the Israelites rejected their Creator. When trouble came, they “counted the buildings in Jerusalem and tore down houses to strengthen the wall ... but did not look to the One who made it” (22:10-11). God wanted his people to give up their idols and rely on him. He is “a refuge for the poor ... a shelter from the storm” (25:4).

Our frantic efforts to fix ourselves and the world always fall short. But God responds when we call out to him. “Surely this is our God; we trusted in him, and he saved us” (25:9).
