John 1
/“Come,” he replied, “and you will see” (39). John tells us that the Word existed in the beginning with God, was God, and was the Life that made existence possible for everyone. This Word “became flesh and made his dwelling among us” (14) in the form of Jesus of Nazareth. Jesus, fully human and divine, called individuals by name and invited them to “come and see” his life, his teachings, his miracles, and his sacrifice. He did not stay at a distance but made himself completely available to the broken humans who needed him.
“Follow me” (43). We do not follow an idea, but a Person. Jesus the Son of God, the Messiah, calls us by name to follow him.
