Mark 6
“Come with me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest” (31). The disciples who followed Jesus were stretched to the limits of their capabilities, both physically and emotionally. They were often “straining at the oars, because the wind was against them” (48), and they knew they might be asked to give the ultimate sacrifice, like John the Baptist who was beheaded (27). Jesus never minimized the cost of discipleship, but he offered them a greater gift – rest and provision beyond their own resources. “They all ate and were satisfied” (42).
“You give them something to eat” (37). In ourselves we quickly run dry, but by his Spirit, Jesus refreshes us and flows through us to touch others.
