II Kings 11-12

“And Jehoash did what was right in the eyes of the LORD all his days, because Jehoiada the priest instructed him” (12:2).  Israel’s rulers were called to promote obedience to God’s revealed Law - faithfulness in worship and justice, honesty, and purity in daily life.  Remarkably, even though young Jehoash took the throne in the midst of a corrupt, violent era, together with the priest Jehoiada he led Judah (briefly) toward God.

Righteous leaders like Jehoash and Jehoida understood that God’s Law was a great gift and blessing to Israel, “so that it may go well with you” (Deut 6:3).  He calls us to obedience because He loves us.
