Psalm 76
/“The earth feared and was still, when God arose to establish judgment, to save all the humble of the earth” (v8-9). The psalms tell us that this world, poisoned by conflict between people and nations, will not endure forever; God will establish His peace. His Kingdom includes judgment against those who love violence. Just as He rescued Israel, one day He will break all “the flashing arrows, the shield, the sword, and the weapons of war” (v3,5). He is the defender of the “humble of the earth.”
God’s kingdom, His “dwelling place in Zion,” has expanded not through conquest, but through sacrifice (v2). By faith in Christ, we live now as citizens of His coming kingdom.
