Psalm 43

“Why do I go about mourning because of the oppression of the enemy?” (v2).  The psalmist struggled to understand why, as one of God’s children, he suffered from the attacks of his enemies.  He had taken refuge in God, yet he felt abandoned and experienced pain and sorrow (v2).  The psalmist’s answer is the refrain from Psalm 42: “Hope in God” (v5).  God is “my salvation” and “my exceeding joy” (v4), and His light and truth will not fail us in the midst of darkness (v3).

Jesus himself experienced sorrow, conflict, disappointment, and temptation.  Because of his victory, “in all these things, we are more than conquerors through him who loved us” (Romans 8:37).
