Romans 1

“For although they knew God, they did not honor him as God or give thanks to him, but they became futile in their thinking, and their foolish hearts were darkened” (v21).  In describing humanity’s progression toward a broken, degraded world, Paul states that knowing about God’s existence is not enough.  If we don’t “honor him as God” or “give thanks,” then we are worshipping something or someone less than the real God.  In fact, our constant temptation is to “exchange the truth about God for a lie” (v25).

Despite our rebellion, God loved us enough to save us (v16).  Jesus is the light shining in the darkness, showing us God’s exact nature and calling us back to Himself (v6).
