II Timothy 1-2
/“So flee youthful passions and pursue righteousness, faith, love, and peace, along with those who call on the Lord from a pure heart” (2:22). Paul encouraged his young fellow-worker, Timothy, to set his eyes on the long-term goal of faithfulness (2:11-13). The soldier, athlete, and farmer all work for something more than short-term pleasure or short-term gain; they work hard, persevere, and play “according to the rules” so that they will enjoy a future reward and please “the one who enlisted them” (2:4-6).
Every believer has a “holy calling” to know Christ and, by obedience and faithfulness over time, to be changed into His image. Our lives have great significance because of God’s own purpose and grace (1:9).
