Ezekiel 26-28

“By your great wisdom in your trade you have increased your wealth, and your heart has become proud in your wealth” (28:12).  The ancient city-state of Tyre sat offshore in the Mediterranean, a perfect location for both security and trade (28:2).  Their trading empire stretched across the Mediterranean and allowed goods to spread around the known world: ivory, oil, animals, wood, metals, grains, precious stones, linens and silks (ch 27) passed through their hands.  Their wealth was staggering, and they felt like gods (28:6).

“You corrupted your wisdom for the sake of your splendor” (28:17).  God’s gifts, twisted by sinful pride, can lead us to think we don’t need Him.  Yet there is no real security without God (28:26).
