Hebrews 3-4

“So then, there remains a Sabbath rest for the people of God” (4:9).  Speaking to “Hebrews” – Jewish Christians - the author says that some of their ancestors had hard hearts, and even after God supplied their needs for 40 years in the desert, they didn’t enter God’s “rest” (the Promised Land) due to unbelief (3:8-11).  The author urges everyone to take advantage of God’s open invitation in Christ, today, to enjoy Sabbath rest - which means life with God, on His terms, by faith.

“For we who have believed enter that rest” (4:3).  We “rest” by acknowledging that God is God, and we are not.  He pours out the mercy and grace we need, if we will only ask (4:16).
