Zechariah 10-11
/“For the household gods utter nonsense, and the diviners see lies; they tell false dreams and give empty consolation. Therefore the people wander like sheep; they are afflicted for lack of a shepherd” (10:2). The “household gods” were the common idols of the region that offered comfort, protection, and direction. God gave Israel shepherds, or leaders, to guide the people to Himself as the true source of provision and wisdom, but the leaders had failed. The Israelites listened to nonsense, lies, and empty promises of hope.
“I will make them strong in the Lord” (10:12). God’s promise is that if we turn away from the world’s false security and empty hope, we will find real strength in Him.
