Psalm 86
/“In the day of my trouble I call upon you, for you answer me. There is none like you among the gods, O Lord” (v7-8). In real distress, there is only One Person who truly understands us, hears us, and is powerful enough to help. The psalmist felt “poor and needy” (v1) and cried out to God all day. He knew that God would answer him, “for great is your steadfast love toward me; you have delivered my soul from the depths of Sheol” (v13).
Like the psalmist, we may be attacked by enemies or ensnared in our own sin. But God is always “merciful and gracious, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness” (v15).
