Job 12-13

“Your maxims are proverbs of ashes; your defenses are defenses of clay” (13:11-12).  Job accuses his “friends” of trying to explain his situation with lies and deception (v1-10), spouting easy answers instead of searching for truth.  Job says that he, too, knows the basic doctrines about God’s justice (13:1), yet in this situation, the easy answers don’t work. Job is frustrated and near the breaking point, yet he never turns his back on God.

Job doesn’t want theological points; he wants to hear from God Himself. “Though he slay me, I will hope in him; yet I will argue my ways to his face” (13:15).
