II Corinthians 7

“For godly grief produces a repentance that leads to salvation without regret, whereas worldly grief produces death” (v10).  In correcting some problems in the Corinthian church, Paul wanted to be sure that his words were not simply producing shame and “wordly grief” in the Corinthians (v7-12).  This kind of emotion is a mixture of embarrassment, humiliation, and anger at ourselves or others, and it is destructive.  Paul’s goal was “godly grief” – a heart-level recognition that we have sinned against God, leading to forgiveness, salvation, and healing of souls and relationships.

“I rejoice, because I have perfect confidence in you” (v16).  When we continually experience the grace and love of Christ, we can forgive and love one another.
