Galatians 5
/“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,
gentleness” (v22-23). Paul taught that trying to be holy by observing the Law (such as circumcision) was a rejection of Christ (v2). Furthermore, the Law can’t produce real goodness, which instead is the fruit of the Spirit-transformed life: “faith working through love” (v6). Instead of becoming more religious, “walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh” (v16).
“For you were called to freedom” (v13). Following the Law appeals to our pride, but we end up enslaved by sin. Jesus calls us to walk in freedom as loved and forgiven people, learning to love and serve others (v13).
