Isaiah 61-64
/“In all their affliction he was afflicted, and the angel of his presence saved them; in his love and in his pity he redeemed them” (63:9). The story of God’s dealings with Israel reveals the same sacrificial love ultimately poured out in Jesus Christ. God was Savior to the Israelites from the beginning (v8), and even when they suffered the consequences of their rebellion, they appealed to His mercy: “You, O LORD, are our Father, our Redeemer from of old is your name” (63:16).
God’s “love and pity” reaches out to every generation and people, to all who call on Jesus’ name. “And they shall be called The Holy People, The Redeemed of the LORD” (62:12).
