Psalm 120

“Too long have I had my dwelling among those who hate peace” (v6).  This psalm recognizes the feelings of frustration and hopelessness that can arise when we live surrounded by conflict.  We cry out against lies and injustice (v2), but nothing changes. At times it seems like we are alone in desiring something different: “I am for peace, but when I speak, they are for war!” (v7).  In the mist of this, the psalmist said, “In my distress I called to the Lord, and He answered me” (v1).

We can bring our distress, fear, anger, and pain to the Lord.  He is never overwhelmed; He is our “hiding place and shield” (119:114).
