Isaiah 36-37

“Then the Rabshakeh stood and called out in a loud voice in the language of Judah …” (36:13).  The terrible threat from the Assyrian empire was all the more frightening to Judah because it was spoken in their own language.  The invaders knew that their words of fear would be more effective when they were more personal.  However, King Hezekiah met their threats with prayer (37:14) and received God’s promise of comfort and protection: “I will defend this city to save it” (37:35).

“Do not be afraid of the words that you have heard” (37:5).  We don’t have to be afraid of the personal attacks of the enemy; God is our shield and defender.
