Jeremiah 21-22

“Do justice and righteousness, and deliver from the hand of the oppressor him who has been robbed. And do no wrong or violence to the resident alien, the fatherless, and the widow, nor shed innocent blood in this place” (22:3).  God called Jeremiah to preach in “the house of the king of Judah” (v1), declaring God’s vision of holiness.  While Judah’s leaders had become wealthy because of God’s blessing, they had forgotten the essentials of the covenant, which required them to share with the less-fortunate and protect the innocent.

Having a religious culture and a Temple didn’t impress God.  He always calls His people to personal, daily-life obedience that comes from a heart filled with His love.
