Philippians 2:1-11

“Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus …he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death” (v5-8).  Paul urged the Philippians believers to “do nothing from rivalry or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves” (v3), because this is the pattern of Jesus, our Lord (v1).  Just as Jesus’ choice to humble himself led to suffering and death, so our own choice to promote others before ourselves may lead to sacrifice.

Jesus’ example shows us that this kind of self-giving love, while very costly, produces a great victory, “to the glory of God the Father” (v8-11).
