Matthew 3-5

“The people dwelling in darkness have seen a great light, and for those dwelling in the region and shadow of death, on them a light has dawned” (4:16).  The light that shone in the darkness was Jesus’ active, personal presence.  He taught in the synagogues, explained the gospel of the kingdom, healed people of all kinds of diseases, and delivered those oppressed by demons (4:23-24).  Jesus didn’t only talk about God’s kingdom; He brought God’s kingdom into the lives of everyone who received him.

“In the same way, let your light shine before others” (5:15).  The light we receive from Jesus is meant to be given away; by our words and our lives, we are ambassadors of his kingdom.
