Leviticus 12

“If a woman conceives and bears a male child, then she shall be unclean seven days” (v2).  Many situations that were considered “unclean” by ancient religions involved weakness (disease, physical defects) and human vulnerability (childbirth, menstruation, bodily fluids, etc). However, Jesus entered our world and turned this system upside down: He experienced our weakness and vulnerability, and when we are united with Him we experience His wholeness, cleanness, and fellowship with God.

“And this will be a sign for you: you will find a baby wrapped in swaddling cloths and lying in a manger" (Luke 2).  By coming to us as a baby, Jesus made our human vulnerability the very point in which we experience God’s grace.
