Numbers 1

“The LORD spoke to Moses in the wilderness of Sinai, in the tent of meeting …” (v1).  After the dramatic deliverance from Egypt and crossing the Red Sea, the Israelites found themselves at Sinai, the mountain where God gave them the Law and instructed them on how to worship.  Though they had thousands of able-bodied men (v46) and were ready to settle in the Promised Land, God kept them there, at Sinai, to learn how to live well in their eventual home.

“I will give peace in the land” (Lev 26:6).  Being in the right place, the Promised Land, isn’t enough; God-given peace flows out of our daily decisions to honor God and love one another.
