Deuteronomy 16

“Seven days you shall eat it with unleavened bread, the bread of affliction--for you came out of the land of Egypt in haste” (v3).  The Israelites were told to celebrate the yearly Passover to remember how God rescued them from Egypt. They were instructed to eat flat bread, without yeast, to recall the urgency of their flight that night (v1).  Remembering their lives as slaves and God’s miraculous rescue would motivate them to follow His ways (v12).

“You shall rejoice in your feast” (v14).  Taking time to remember God’s mercy, His faithfulness and goodness toward us, fills us with joy and renews our commitment to Him.
