Deuteronomy 2-3
/“But charge Joshua, and encourage and strengthen him, for he shall go over at the head of this people” (3:28). Moses, the powerful leader who had led the Israelites out of Egypt and received the Law, was not going to enter the Promised Land. His time was finished, because he had failed to honor God at the waters of Meribah (Numbers 27). However, he had the privilege of passing leadership to Joshua, the leader of the younger generation who would see the fulfillment of God’s promises.
“It is the LORD your God who fights for you” (3:22). Like Moses, we are called to see beyond ourselves, encouraging and strengthening others for the mission God has for them.
