Deuteronomy 18

"When you come into the land that the LORD your God is giving you, you shall not learn to follow the abominable practices of those nations” (v18-19). The roles of priest and prophet (v1,18) were vitally important to the nation of Israel, because above all else they were called to be a holy people.  If they fell into witchcraft or child sacrifice or sexual immorality, they would be just like the pagans whom God was “driving out” (v10-12).

“You shall be blameless before the Lord your God” (v13).  Like Israel, we are called to righteousness so that we avoid self-destruction and instead enjoy fruitful, abundant life in God’s kingdom.
