II Chronicles 26

“But when he was strong, he grew proud, to his destruction” (v16). Uzziah was an extremely capable, effective king, and for many years he walked in God’s ways and prospered along with all of Judah. His fortifications and land management made him famous, but his success was his downfall. Not content with being king, Uzziah entered the Temple and tried to burn incense like a priest. Immediately, he was struck with leprosy, and he “was a leper until the day of his death” (v21).

“It will bring you no honor from the Lord God” (v18). Seeking our own honor and glory always ends in self-destruction, but pursuing God’s honor results in blessing.
