Psalm 60
/“You have set up a banner for those who fear you, that they may flee to it from the bow” (v4). The psalmist described Israel’s situation as fragile and chaotic; their defenses were broken, the land quaked, and people were seeing “hard things” (v1-3). The answer to the chaos was not to defend themselves or lean on false friends, but to run to the protection of the true King’s “banner” – God’s name and His authority. There we find deliverance and salvation (v5).
“With God we shall do valiantly” (v12). The world’s powers are “vain,” and we cannot rescue ourselves, but we have a Savior who loves us (v11).
