1 Samuel 29-30:20

“To whom do you belong?” (30:13). Just as the Egyptian servant switched his allegiance to David in exchange for protection, the Philistine commanders were worried that David – supposedly fighting on their side – would demonstrate his loyalty to Israel in the midst of battle (29:4). In fact, when he was dismissed from the front lines, David did exactly that (ch 30), rescuing his own family and others who had been captures by the Amalekites.  Despite appearances, David had remained loyal to God’s people.

“But David strengthened himself in the LORD his God” (v6).  Daily, we hear other voices calling for our attention, our investment, and our allegiance.  Our choices and behavior will flow from the commitment of our hearts.
