1 Samuel 27
/“And when it was told Saul that David had fled to Gath, he no longer sought him” (v4). David, future king of Israel, was tired of running from Saul, and so he found refuge in “the land of the Philistines” (v1). David fought for the Philistine king as a mercenary (v5-11) and somewhat as a double agent, seeking to make Achish trust him while also carrying out raids against Israel’s enemies.
“And the number of the days that David lived in the country of the Philistines was a year and four months” (v7). Our circumstances may feel like exile as we wait for God’s deliverance, yet He is with even us “in the land of the Philistines.”
