I Kings 7-8:11

“There was nothing in the ark except the two tablets of stone that Moses put there at Horeb, where the LORD made a covenant with the people of Israel …” (8:9).  The spectacular Temple Solomon built did not contain an idol, like other temples, but a box filled with two tablets.  Rather than worship an image, the Israelites were called to be in fellowship with the invisible Creator; the words on the tablets described the terms of that relationship.

“The glory of the Lord filled the house of the Lord” (v11).  Our trust is not in an image we invented, but in the One God who calls us to Himself.
