Psalm 70

“Make haste, O God, to deliver me! O LORD, make haste to help me!” (v1).  This short psalm expresses the desperation we feel when our troubles overwhelm us and there is no obvious escape.  The psalmist felt threatened by his enemies and prayed against their schemes (v2-3); he knew that on his own, he was “poor and needy” (v5).  Yet he trusted in God and could say with confidence, “God is great!” (v4).

“You are my help and my deliverer, O Lord, do not delay!” (v5).  We can accept the reality of life’s dangers and troubles because we are not alone. We have a Deliverer who is ready to help us.
