II Kings 22
/“When the king heard the words of the Book of the Law, he tore his clothes” (v11). After several generations of wicked leaders, Israel had forgotten what God’s law actually said. The Scriptures were found during Temple repairs, and when King Josiah realized how far they had fallen from God’s ways, he grieved. His heart was tender toward the Lord, yet without the Book, he had not really known the truth about God and His commands.
“Regarding the words that you have heard, because your heart was penitent …” (v18,19). God’s Word must be proclaimed so that those with open hearts like Josiah can hear, respond, and be transformed.
