II Kings 23
/“Moreover, Josiah put away the mediums and the necromancers and the household gods and the idols … that he might establish the words of the law” (v24). When King Josiah found God’s Law in the Temple, he realized how far Israel had fallen from holiness. He read aloud the Law to the people, and he renewed their covenant with God (v2-3). Then he got rid of the idols in the Temple and all over the land, as well as the pagan priests and every sign of their activities.
“And he burned the chariots of the sun with fire …” (v11). Repentance includes getting rid of every known evil practice in our lives, so that we can welcome God’s Spirit.
