Proverbs 16

“Whoever gives thought to the word will discover good, and blessed is he who trusts in the LORD” (v20).  The proverbs teach us to reject the pagan idea of fatalism, in which life “just happens” to us and we are helpless.  Instead, when we “give thought” to God’s ways, our relationships improve; our behavior and words produce results (v22).  Gossip, dishonesty, and angry speech spread strife (v27-20), while self-control demonstrates real strength (v32).  When we seek to please God, even our enemies take notice (v7).

“Commit your work to the Lord …” (v3).  When we choose to speak and act and work according to God’s values, we can trust Him with the results.
