Psalm 79

“Do not remember against us our former iniquities; let your compassion come speedily to meet us, for we are brought very low” (v8).  The psalmist called out to God on behalf of the nation; Jerusalem was “in ruins” and the enemy was winning.  Israel’s downfall had come due to their rejection of God’s ways; yet, the psalmist had hope that God would hear them.  He appealed to the “God of our salvation,” (v9) the God who saves.

“Deliver us, and atone for our sins, for your name's sake!” (v9).  Even when the disaster is our own fault, God is full of mercy and compassion.  He will forgive us and help us rebuild.
