Proverbs 17:1-10

“Better is a dry morsel with quiet than a house full of feasting with strife” (v1).  The proverbs urge us to consider how our own choices bring joy or self-destruction, no matter what circumstances we find ourselves in.  Whether we are the servant or rich son (v2), our behavior (quietness vs strife, v1) influences the future.  We can spread gossip and cause conflict, for example, or “cover an offense” (v9).  We can listen to “rebuke” or correction rather than reject it (v10).

“The Lord tests hearts” (v3).  God “tests” us through circumstances, not so that we fail, but so that our hearts can learn deeper trust and a more resilient peace.
