Psalm 87

“The LORD records as he registers the peoples, "This one was born there" (v6).  The psalmist prophetically glimpsed God’s wonderful plan: one day, people from foreign nations like Babylon, Tyre, and Cush would claim their place as equal, natural-born citizens of Zion: “This one was born here” (v4).  “Zion,” beloved city of God, is another name for the place where God dwells among His people (v1-2).  Jerusalem embodied this, yet God’s desire was always that the whole earth become “Zion.”

“Glorious things of you are spoken, O city of God!” (v3).  In Christ, no matter our background, we are reborn as full citizens of Zion.  We belong to God, and He lives among us by His Spirit.
