Psalm 108

“Let your glory be over all the earth! That your beloved ones may be delivered, give salvation by your right hand and answer me!” (v5-6). The psalmist knew that to defeat their enemies and live in peace, Israel had to recognize God’s authority over the whole earth (v7-9). They were called to sing praises to God “among the nations” (v3), to shine God’s goodness and holiness to others. Yet instead, Israel sometimes leaned on idols and pagan nations as allies. They had to learn that “vain is the salvation of man” (v12).

“With God we shall do valiantly” (v13). We can’t achieve God’s purposes in our lives by using anti-God methods. His Spirit and His ways give us true victory.
